This and That          By Kurt Sievert

Well, another year's gone by and it sure seemed to go fast. I guess we must be having more fun than we thought. The ol' 68 is still hangin' in there. This year I hope to do the exhaust system, the rear end, the steering box and some smaller projects. These things will require time, money and some luck finding parts. I hope to solicit advice from other club members as I go along and continue to share my experiences through this column. My current project is sun visors. I wanted to replace my old worn visors with something that looked nice and didn't cost too much. I made a pattern using the old visors, picked up black naugahide, padding, needle and thread and went to work. I also made a new gasket where the arm attaches. After fudging with the pattern a bit, I did the sewing by hand and the first visor turned out real nice. One down, one to go I've heard a lot recently about the internet and decided to see what I could find on the P1800. I found a web address dealing with the Saint and the P1800. It was loaded with lots of great stuff including the following:

1. Information about Simon Templar's P1800.

2. Picture of Corgi P1800 toy box (1966 model had a Saint logo)

3. Picture and info on Volvo C70 coupe from new Saint movie.

4. Two vintage P1800 advertisements.

5. Info on Bill Webb's excellent book "Swedish Iron".

6. Info on Volvo Sports America national car club.

7. List ofP1800 clubs in Europe.

8. List of P1800 production numbers.

9. Volvo related Web sites.

10. Internet mailing lists (including Volvo Club Of America). 11. Sound of a P1800 horn.

12. Story "My first Volvo" about a 1964 P1800.

13. Additional info (mags/books/movies/stories etc. ).

That's just one site folks. I'll be looking at some others and let you know what I find.

The Saint web page is: http://www.saint.org/volvo.htm.

The supplies for the visors were found at Yardage Town.

Until next time. Drive safely...................................................................
