SDVSA SWAP MEET

May 17, 1997 - Ski Beach/Mission Bay - San Diego, CA

Blue Skies, soft breezes, swaying palm trees, fresh green grass, barbequed hamburgers and spicy sausages, micro brew beers and water skiers whooshing by . . . . does this sound like the setting for a Volvo swap meet? Well, it is if you're in San Diego. Of course you also have to rub yourself down with sun tan lotion and wear your shorts, Volvo hat and tee shirt.

This was the setting for our most recent and successful swapping event. Even though more stories were swapped than parts we still did a lot of swapping. Parts were exchanged and sold though and some great deals were made while some of our children played on the beach. A constant parade of members dropped by for a short or long stay.

We had 10 cars on display all day for the curious public that, inquired about our "cute" little sports cars. Cars came and went all day and included the full spectrum of models including Dave Hunt's who made the trip down from Anaheim with his beautiful and rare old P1900.

He continues to restore this rolling gem and it's looking more like the day it rolled off the line every time we see it. Let him know if you have any information or resources for P1900 parts or literature or even other P1900 owners. He would welcome it. Dave also surprised us by bringing a variety of free giveaways from the Volvo corporation which included light bulb replacement kits, Volvo buttons, and the collectible book "The Story of Volvo's First Forty Years in America" that each of us got to take home.

Gene Bellegarde did a great job of handling the barbeque and acquiring the tastey sausages (hot), hamburgers and micro brews. His culinary expertise kept everyone fat and happy.

Bob Skoog surprised everyone by bringing his long awaited P1800 ground-up restoration project that he's been working on this past year for his wife. It's absolutely gorgeous. Bob's impeccable approach to detail and high quality is obvious in this fine car. A few minor items needed to be completed but he's on the home stretch of another prize winning classic.

All in all our day turned out to be another fun, educational and valuable swap meet for all of us. The information comraderie and parts that were shared (and swapped) can be compared to none!
