The annual SDVSA Christmas Party on December 9, 1995, inspired this contribution from an anonymous member. In The Spirit of the Season Twas 16 days before Christmas when Bud Hartwell and his missus decided to host a party with the most food that was devinely delicious To the hills of Harbison Canyon we flew driving our Volvo's like so many do And arriving in time for that first glass of wine And a few beers and sodas too As we glanced through the windows of Bud's large Barn We saw rolling green hills and mountains and farms There was tire kicking and talk and lots of good cheer and plenty of laughter that you could hear Inside the Barn there were plenty of cars And more 1800's that parked under the stars There was "hoisted" food on Bud's new toy And Mercedes and Triumphs to see and enjoy When we left the Barn and went up to the house We found Christine working like a little Christmas mouse There was a tree with decos and a big bow on top Beneath were gifts and plush animals for tots How generous were 23 members who thought There might be a child that may do without We shared laughter, stories and some car talk too And wondered about Christmas and each little "Whoa" Then away to the exceptional buffet we flew Earlier we had peeked, so we already knew That there was fresh ham and salads and meat And lucious desserts that were a real special treat Piling our plates high with goodies galore It wasn't difficult to go back for more The spirit was with us it was easy to tell We all wanted to linger and sit for a spell And listen to what President Russ had to say And watched as he gave plenty of T -Shirts away There were prizes for playing a silly old game About knowing your states that had a funny name And when it came time to say our good-bye's We all hugged and kissed and had hope in our eyes For extending best wishes for all close and dear A joyous holiday season and successful New Year Wishing Merry Christmas to all as we drove out of sight Thanking Bud and Christine for a very good night |
