Crown Point Spring Swap Meet Members in attendance were:
Potential SDVSA members Steve Myrick, Michael Holz and Tom Bold attended, as did visiting members of the Southern California Chapter, Tom Biss, Howard Steinrad, Pete Betz, Doug Wilson and Mike Maxwell. Our swap meet has become a showcase for new automotive products. Goran and Vince demonstrated a new car alarm that works on a pressure principle. It's on while you drive; open a car door while being carjacked and the alarm goes off! Bud Hartwell introduced a new, waterless car cleaner that treats the surface while it cleans--actually discourages new dirt from sticking to your paint. Both are good products! For those who like to bench race, the bench races were on at Crown Point! We got it cranked up with Dave Palmquist and his polished injection intake manifold. |
Then Bob and Goran opened the hoods on their fresh B20 engines, only to have the L.A. guys show up with Greg Groom talking of his two SCCA race cars and Tom Biss driving a modified 122 with one of the rare VOLVO-inscribed IPD valve covers. Can't beat that! But for the rare-find award, I believe Steve Myrick takes the cake for finding some real "unobtainium" in Goran's box of castoffs: a rare rebuild kit for a 1967 tandem master cylinder! Or was it some unused British parts left over from a Triumph of many years past? Let's hope Steve accepts the invitation to join SDVSA and follows through with a report on the little black seals with the two valve assemblies. Also, I haven't ever seen that many early overdrive units change hands. We learned from Tom Biss that the Pick Yur Parts junkyard in Orange County is half price on New Year's Day. Last year, Tom got a B30 engine for 62 bucks while everyone else was home sleeping off a hangover. Kudos to him! Maybe we could get him to organize a tour of that yard for the first day in 1994. How 'bout it, Tom? Everyone had a good time at the Spring Swap Meet, and I'm looking forward to the bookend event this Fall. We even had the Park Ranger stop, not to ticket us, but to admire the cars and get a look under the bonnet of a few. Soon as he found we weren't selling anything (almost true), he told us that he's always liked Volvo 1800s and wanted to see more. No problem--want to buy one? We had one of those again, by the way. Michael Holz was cruising through when he stopped to tell us he is looking to buy a coupe as a daily driver. We all gave him our opinions as to which year to buy, and now he is really confused. If anyone has a good, clean, dependable 1800 coupe for sale, call Michael at (714) 720-9109. It was 1989, I believe, when Dan Palmquist sold an 1800 at the Ski Beach Swapmeet! I think our new Swap Meet site was a good call, and worthy of the switch; let me know your reaction. --Gene Bellegarde |
