Dave Hunt, president of the new Orange County Volvo Club, and a SDVSA member, came to our September 8 General Meeting with a schedule of events for all of 2000! He is trying to avoid conflicts between our activities and other Southern California Volvo clubs. A sample of this tentative combined event calendar for the first six months of 2000 can be found on page 4. As always, if any of our members have objections or some better ideas, let them be known as soon as possible. The purpose of preplanning activities is to get more exposure in Bill Webb's Western States VSA Magazine and the national VSA S-E-ES newsletter. September 8 was also Clay DeWit's lucky day! Not only did he become the newest member of the prestigious SDVSA, but he also won $16 in Bob Skoog's 50/50 raffle, thus almost paying for his membership fee! Another reason for attending our meetings held every second Wednesday of the month and joining or renewing in person.. Last month's event, on September 25, was our Second Annual Brewery Tour. Starting on page 7, our resident rutabaga, Sven Olafsbrosson, has reared his head after a long absence with a tongue-in-cheek account of proceedings. British Car Day was held on October 3. An estimated 400 cars, from Rolls Royces and Aston-Martins to Mini Coopers, were gathered in the grass at the beautiful Fairview Farm, but not one Jensen-built P1800! The upcoming SDVSA event for this month is the Chrysler Classic Speed Festival in Coronado on Sunday, October 24. For a complete plan of our club's participation, |
just turn the page. Make sure you call Bud Hartwell at (619)558-2180 for your Volvo parking pass! This year, associated with the races, there is going to be a Retromobile Exhibit at the San Diego Convention Center on Thursday 21 through Saturday 23. We thought it would be fun to get our club together Thursday 21, at 6:00 p.m. to take in the show for a few hours. More details on that are found on the next page, too. At our General Meeting on Wednesday , November 10, we will have another Pizza 'n' Video session, starting at 6:30 p.m. The indulging members will split the cost of the pizza, while SDVSA supplies free sodas and suds. And Wes Hinkle's San Diego Volvo has agreed to let us have our annual Swap Meet on their grounds on Saturday, November 13 (See page 3 ). David Hunt is working very hard to get maximum participation from our friends in the Los Angeles area. So let's get as many local members of SDVSA as possible to participate in this very generous offer by Wes Hinkle! Last minute details in the next 1800 NEWS, but, please, make plans to be there. Mr. Hinkle is now the owner of Westcott (now South County) Volvo in National City as well. We are hopeful that the service will now reach the same level of excellence as at San Diego Volvo. We have reserved the Winners Circle Room at the San Diego Auto Museum for the SDVSA Christmas Party on Sunday, December 19, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. More details in November's 1800 NEWS, about the food arrangements, etc. |
