We had an excellent turnout for our October 8 General Meeting. Thirteen members showed up, and we were all happy to see Bob Skoog again, this time in his veteran black ’63 P1800, being driven by Bob Workman, another ”stranger” as of late. Between running probably the best Volvo repair shop south of Los Angeles, if not in all of Southern California, and getting his and Cindy’s new house in order, the Workmans have their hands full. Mark and Diane Jankowski also came after a long absence. Mark and Diane had been taking care of Mark’s dad, who unfortunately passed away recently after a long illness. About the same time of Mark’s dad’s passing, Kurt Sievert, our Membership Coordinator, received word of the death of his father. The whole club mourns the loss of these two fine gentlemen, and extends its sympathy to their survivors. The winning name for Bob Skoog’s 50/50 raffle drawn at the meeting was that of David Skousen, who calls Laguna Beach home, and quite understandably was not in attendance. The prize was $57.50 this time, and as long as we don’t have the winner present at the meeting, it will just keep going up! Why don’t you try your luck at the next SDVSA General Meeting? We also had a record turnout for the Chrysler Classic Speed Festival on Sunday, October 12! We counted 14 of our cars in the Car Club Corral, and over 20 members from SDVSA and OCVC!

starting on page 7. On pages 9-10, read Tom Mc Cahill’s February 1962 Mechanix Illustrated test report on the Volvo P1800; in which, he notes the car tested is “one of the first production P-1800s in [the] U.S.” It’s quite possible that car was the original #14 ---------------------------------------Important Notice! What would the Midwinter Solstice Season be without the traditional SDVSA Holiday Party! This year, Mark and Diane Jankowski graciously agreed to be the hosts once again. We always schedule this very popular event in the early part of December, so as not to conflict with our members’ commitment to office parties and family obligations. The date is set for Sunday, December 7, and this is the only newsletter you will receive before that date – so pay close attention to all the details on the following page! The most important thing of making this event successful is for everyone to call Mark and Diane at (619) 479-8583 before Monday, December 1 so we have some idea how much food and drink to purchase. --------------------------------------- Anyone who has partaken in a SDVSA Holiday Party at Bud and Christine Hartwell’s house and “Car Barn” in the recently fire ravaged area of Crest have been necessarily concerned about their -- both Bud and Christine and the cars -- safety. It is a pleasure to report that they are all safe!! On November 15, Bozzani Volvo joins the ranks of dealerships, which support our cause by hosting an all Volvo car show! Unfortunately, the dealership is located quite far from San Diego, in Covina. A flyer with the address, activity times and an invitation to a free lunch is posted on page 3. The event is sponsored by the Southern California Chapter of the Volvo Club Of America (VCOA), and you can find more information, as well as an entry form for the show, on their web site, www.scvcoa.org. We like to see some SDVSA members from San Diego support this event, to reciprocate for all the support that SCVCOA and especially the OCVC has given us lately! The SDVSA is still in the process of searching for a reasonable venue where to host the 2004 VSA West Coast Convention. We have rejected a few locations as being too expensive or too remote, or both. Once we locate the perfect location, then all the hard work begins. If you have any skills or ideas to contribute, please contact Russ Orrell at (858) 565-8034. |
