News Flash; The Auto Museum has initiated new rules for their meeting rooms. From now on, they will close the all doors to outsiders at 8:00 p.m. We will still be able to carry on our meetings until 10:00 p.m., but if you plan to attend, please arrive before 8:00 p.m.

Just about every one of the nine individuals in attendance at the April 12 general meeting was in the rears with their membership dues. Kurt Sievert had a field day collecting $20 from each of us. Look on the address label on this copy of 1800 NEWS to find your expiration date. If you are overdue, please send a check for $20 to Kurt at the address in the "box" on page 4. Unless you are a brand new member, you will not receive another membership kit, unless you specifically request it. You can pick up the latest revision (1/6/2000) of the "Source List" at any scheduled meeting or event. We are always looking for additions and/or constructive comments to add to the list, so if you have had any good --or bad-- experiences at any repair shop or parts source, etc., please, let the club know. We had a request for another "Pizza 'n' Video" night, so we are planning for one at our next general meeting at Rick Brule's GO!motors at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14. See page 2 for info!

What a perfect day it was for Mark and Diane Jankowski's East County Tour on April 29! Apparently, 18 souls -- members, their relatives and friends - all felt the same way, too. We all had a great time under Mark's low pressure, but masterful, leadership, as our ten car caravan received honks and thumbs up from other drivers while traversing San Diego County's back country. You can relive our experience (to a certain degree) at our next "Pizza 'n' Video" night on June 14, by watching Rick Brulé's video of this outstanding event. Mark consented to writing a summary of the tour, and you can read about

it on page 7. Profuse thanks from all of us go to Mark and Diane! And, SDVSA would like to thank every participant.

The San Diego Auto Museum' s Car Club Council Car Show on Saturday, May 6, was a smashing success! Thirteen cars were pre registered, and over 70 showed up! Most of the cars present were Detroit iron, from the teens to the 1970s, with a smattering of imports - mostly British, aside from one lonely 1800S representing the SDVSA.

The first ever Swedish Speed All Volvo Car Show and Swap Meet, sponsored by the Orange County Volvo Club (this was also the SDVSA event for May) on Sunday, May 7, was more than we expected! Dave Hunt, Art Banks, Mark Yarborough and the staff at Swedish Speed accomplished a Super event from scratch and not enough time. We fortunately had a fair turnout (5 cars from San Diego) by the SDVSA to show some appreciation of their efforts. There were plenty of raffle prices and awards enough for everyone. After having exerted such a tremendous effort on the recent car show, we can understand that Dave have not had time to submit his usual OCVC newsletter which usually appears here, but he has promised to write a synopsis -- accompanied by photographs -- of this, hopefully, annual event.

The 8th Annual Menghini Wine Party and Horseshoe Tournament takes place in Mike Menghini's orchard on Saturday, June 24. Our excellent experience of sharing the grounds with the English Ford Cortina last year prompted us look for other car clubs to invite, and the Austin-Healey elected to join us this year. More details in June's 1800 NEWS! So, make your plans to attend this traditional annual happening now!
