Number 2

What a great General Meeting we had on January 12! Thanks to Rick Brulé, (a member of SDVSA), and his staff at GO!motors, we got an eyeful of collectible cars. From '64 Mustangs, '50s and '60s Chevys to a '72 Corvette, a perfect 1964 356C Porsche and MGBs to an MGA with a Volvo B 18 engine no less -- just to name a few! After a short SDVSA business meeting, Rick told us the particulars of each of the fifteen or so cars he had in the building, and some we didn't even see. He also gave us a rundown of how he became involved in the trade, and what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur dealing in classic cars. It may sound strange, but of all the cars that he has been involved with, Rick claims that classic Volvos have given him the most rewarding experiences. (He received a BIG cheer and applause for that!!) During the proceedings, we indulged in plenty of pizza and beer or sodas, too. Thank you, Rick and staff, from all of us for your generosity and showing us such a "revved-up" good time! The reader will find more information about GO!motors on page l0.

January's event, the Tune Up Session at Bob Workman's European Auto on Sunday 23, set another attendance record - for Volvo club members who came all the way from Los Angeles, that is! Bill Webb, Art Banks, Greg Blake, Dave Hunt and Glen Swanson were all there! Where were all the SDVSA members from San Diego - aside from the seven, who were present? We even had five new faces of the 16 attendees. As always, Bob Workman expounded a hands-on, practical, guide to Volvo

maintenance and trouble shooting. He demonstrated many secrets of how to breathe new life into our classic Volvos. We also had an opportunity to smog test our cars at Jim Menard's Pacific Coast Smog Check (see page 11), a smog station across the alley from Bob Workman's European Auto. It is amazing what we learned about the functioning of our cars' engines by watching the numbers on the computer screen of the smog machine. We also feasted on BBQed hot dogs, chips, donuts, and other goodies, which Cindy Workman prepared for us. It was a great event, and many thanks from the SDVSA go to Bob and Cindy, and Jim!!

As promised in the last newsletter, Jeff Perry came through with an article on the SDVSA Christmas Party for 1999. If you look on page 7, you'll see the beginning of his appealing and richly illustrated story. Thanks, Jeff!

Our next event, the Temecula Winery Tour, on Saturday, February 19, has been planned in great detail by Del Skoog. Her machinations are revealed on the next page. This year we will visit the Hart, Baily, and Cilurzo wineries. With the drought prediction by Bob Dale and others, the weather should be no issue, as it was perceived to be last year. So, you will have no excuse for not joining your SDVSA for a beautiful drive, tasting good vintage wines, and great camaraderie!

And don't forget the next general meeting on Wednesday, March 8, it is Pizza 'n' Videos time again! Join us. You Are The Club!!
